Coming off Hormonal Birth Control
Why I could never take “The Pill”, what I learned, and why I’m never going on it. Plus the effective Natural Birth Control I use now. It’s also great for fertility planning! Read more below.
My Experience Taking “The Pill”
I started taking the pill during my sophomore year of college. Everyone either knew about it or was on the pill so it felt like a no-brainer to start taking it when my doctor recommended it. But what nobody warned me about was the significant effects it would have on my body.
I’m sharing my story with you in hopes of giving you the knowledge I wish I had sooner about birth control — how it really works, the effects on your body and alternative reliable options.
I had my first break down the week after I started taking “The Pill”
I was a lighthearted, vibrant student in college but the second I started taking hormonal birth control there was a major shift. I noticed that I was easily irritated and found myself feeling completely out of control of my emotions. I would cry over everything and at one point I remember feeling like the room I was sitting in was physically closing in on me. The emotional breakdowns, tears and frustration became to overshadow who I really was.
After 4 more turbulent weeks and trying at least one other brand, I decided I had enough. The emotional rollercoaster became too much — I wanted my power back and to feel like myself again.
Since my personal college experience on the pill, I have done some research on birth control and was shocked by what I learned.
The Risks of Birth Control
To be honest, the list that outlines the risks of normal birth control is extensive. I wanted to bring attention to some major risks that don’t seem to be common knowledge. Below are some important side effects to be aware of when taking hormonal birth control.
- Mood changes, with some women experiencing symptoms of depression or anxiety
- Headaches or migraines
- Potential increased risk of breast cancer
- Breast tenderness
- May Contribute to Nutrient Deficiencies
- In order for the body to metabolize the pill, the liver requires extra amounts of the B-complex vitamins, vitamin C, magnesium and zinc.
Other side effects include:
- Potential increased risk of blood clotting, heart attack and stroke. The risk of blood clots is highest for very overweight women taking the pill.
- Gallbladder or liver problems, including benign tumors
- Increased blood pressure
- Weight gain
- Nausea, cramping, irregular bleeding or spotting between periods
- The pill also does not protect against sexually transmitted infections, including HIV.
These are serious side effects that can have a substantial impact on your body and health. Now that you know the risks of hormonal birth control, you might be curious about alternative and reliable birth control methods.
I was too, which is how I came across, Lady-Comp, the natural birth control method that’s noninvasive and safe for your body.
What is natural birth control?
After years of trying various natural birth control methods, I found the method that is the most convenient, reliable and effective for me. I track my cycle by taking my temperature with the Lady-Comp. The Lady-Comp is based on the methods of Natural Family Planning (NFP) and, as a reliable lifestyle fertility tracker, calculates the fertile and infertile phases of a woman’s cycle on the basis of an effective, accurate and very sensitive computer-assisted basal body temperature measurement immediately after waking.
Every morning, I roll over, take my temp and I’m able to see where I am in my cycle. Here are some key elements about the Lady-Comp that make it effective, reliable and safe from dangerous health risks.
- 100% hormone-free – that means there are no side effects whatsoever.
- Lady-Comp supports self-determined health care and imparts valuable knowledge about one’s own body.
- No more manual menstrual cycle curves and diagrams: Lady-Comp does the work for you and shows you exactly when you are fertile and when not.
- Precise forecasts ensure that you can plan ahead – especially if you want to conceive.
- At the push of a button, you receive a wide range of information about your cycle, such as fertility history, cycle statistics, menstruation forecasts and much more.
- As early as 15 days post ovulation, Lady-Comp shows you a possible pregnancy – including conception date, birth date and gestational week.
Natural birth control methods can also help you conceive.
I was tracking my cycle with the Lady-Comp when we were trying for our daughter, Everly Rose. It was easy to see when I was fertile and make sure I was in the moment during those days haha! I’m so grateful to say we were able to get pregnant on our third month of trying, and just on the day that a girl was most likely! Natural birth control played a major role in our family planning and I’m thankful to have found such a reliable method.
Here is the link to shop the Lady-Comp. There are various natural birth control methods but this is the one I’ve found is most reliable and easy to use. A great book to start learning more about the fertility awareness method is called Taking Charge of your Fertility by Toni Weschler. This method helps me to feel in the know and empowered about what exactly is going on with my body.
For a limited time only, Lady-Comp is offering a 20% discount site-wide to your purchase when you use code DaysyUS+647.
I hope you feel empowered to choose a birth control method that truly serves you. There are safer, noninvasive natural birth control methods. And I truly believe it’s the better way for your body.
